Brian, the incoming president ran the meeting. He asked that beer makers give some thought to going to a beer judging assessment course to be held in Gisborne on the 7th of July. Its for members in our region and 1 of our members is keen to go to it.
The new Treasurer noted that subs are now due.
Norm led a discussion on hygiene in beer and winemaking. It covered some of the commercial products available and noted that most are highly caustic so the need for an acid wash after using them is necessary to neutralise the equipment. He noted that stainless steel can be scrubbed but plastic must be treated gently as the surface will be scrapped off. Some interesting products came to light that members use for sterilising bottles, equipment and brew and fermenter tanks. These included Janola, Iodine, Baby bottle steriliser, Dishwashing powder, Sterident, and good old boiling water.
The raffle of microwave cookware and peeling knives was won by Bob.
Joe got Silver for his Dry White Fruit in the monthly points competition. In the beer competition for Lager Hans got Silver, David and Brian Bronze.
